Miku Family from Japan visits Vancouver
28.June.2011Taking international visitors around Vancouver is sometimes the greatest reminder of how beautiful this city is. Miku loves Vancouver.
Miku Restaurant’s sister company is far, far away in the Southern Japanese prefecture of Miyazaki. This is where the concept for Miku started, where our signature Aburi Sushi was tested and perfected, and our philosophy of ningenmi was born. The philosophy is about having humanely qualities, a genuineness, a desire to strive for individual and collective growth, and the ability to attain work-life balance.
Each year, our sister restaurant company, Tora Corporation, hosts an MVP Awards, where they recognize staff members who are ambassadors of the ningenmi philosophy. This year 4 members were chosen, and they received an opportunity to visit Vancouver to meet the team at Miku.
Here they are arriving at YVR, getting picked up in limo!
While they were here, they did everything iconically Vancouver – from mountain biking in Whistler, having breakfast at DeDutch, BBQ and beach volleyball at Kits beach, visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge, dinner at Sandbar restaurant on Granville Island, and even late night pho!
One of the most touching moments is when they met the Miku Vancouver team for the first time – even though we’re so far away from each other, it immediately felt like family.
One verrrryyyy non-Vancouver event they had to witness was the aftermath of the Canucks’ Stanley Cup Finals. Coming from a beach town in Japan, they had never seen a hockey game (soccer and baseball are the big sports there). So prior to the puck drop, we explained to them Canadians take hockey extremely seriously, and if we win, the city would explode in excitement. They had to see the absolute opposite of ‘what could have been’ for the city, but don’t worry, we made sure we highlighted the fact that the riots did not stem directly from the hockey results – in fact, it was a bunch of ludacris punks, criminals, and intoxicated people who probably made the worst decisions of their lives that night…we didn’t want them to think Canadians were an insane, violent bunch.
They left Vancouver smiling, full of memories, and we cannot wait until we can see them again! Congratulations Kotoe, Eriko, Hideto, and Tetsuro! Accompanying them on the trip was also Shingo, the CEO for Tora Corporation.
Hopefully Team Vancouver will be able to visit Miyazaki, Japan soon!!!!
